Prevention camp for children – Report
“I never would have thought that this camp would change my heart. I feel like I’m going home now with a much purer heart.” — an 11-year-old boy
This year, the theme of our prevention camp — Who am I? — was brought closer to over 40 children through biblical stories. Together with the children, we brought to life the story of Joseph, the brotherhood of David and Jonathan, the calling of Samuel, and the parable of the prodigal son in the form of plays. Afterwards, our enthusiastic little actors discussed in smaller groups who they are to their parents, siblings, friends, and above all, to God.
We were also joined by a guest — a father who is now a recovered alcoholic — who spoke to the young campers about the importance of learning early on to think through decisions and to say no to things that are harmful, as this can protect us from dangers like addiction.
Naturally, we played a lot of games and created many beautiful crafts. We made jewelry, keychains, painted stones, and much more. The traditional chimney cake baking and water games were a must as well. We took long walks around the area, and our evenings were brightened by singing, storytelling, and conversations around the campfire.
We thank everyone whose support made all of this possible. Thanks to their generous contributions, not a single child missed out on the camp, and all were able to have wonderful experiences.
“This camp may be ending — ‘unfortunately’ — but what I learned here, I won’t forget, and I don’t want to miss next year either!” — summarized a 9-year-old girl.
