Prevention in Schools – Satu Mare
This year, the Bonus Pastor Foundation in Satu Mare organized the second edition of the school drug prevention program.
The Prevention sessions were held in the IXth class of the Reformed High School and 16 classes of the Kölcsey Ferenc High School. Together we reached about 60 young people aged between 14-17 years old. The whole event was supported by teacher Erika Tódor, who is deeply committed to the initiative of holding prevention classes and providing suitable information to the young generation.
The students were extremely well-informed about the short-term effects of substance abuse. Many of them were personally affected, either through their own experiences or the presence of alcoholism in their families. During the sessions, some students reacted with resistance, others with tears or by sharing their personal experiences.
School principals and teachers were also actively involved. The principal of the Reformed High School even provided small nicotine pouches for demonstration purposes.
Parents knew little about the issue and were open to being informed. The presence of two young people who were also involved in the rehabilitation program had a very positive impact on the students and the other participants. They all learned a lot from each other.
One participant commented: ‘I always knew, that I would not use substances, but now I know why’.
