Support Groups
The end-of-year review is approaching for the support groups in Târgu Mureș. On Thursdays at 6 pm, the Addicts’ Group welcomes those who have participated in the long-term or 12-day therapy programs, as well as those who have not yet made that decision or are trying to recover with individual help and have realized they need a place where they can be understood and supported. The Family Members’ Group – spouses, children, mothers, or fathers – meets on Wednesdays at 4 pm to share their burdens, find strength, encouragement, and learn from each other.
Both groups have had a full and enriching year. They enjoyed trips, visited and hosted other groups, celebrated, and participated in many other activities. But what truly enriched them were the unseen and intangible spiritual experiences that strengthened them and started to change their lives. They themselves describe these transformations most beautifully below:
Addicts’ Group:
“It feels like coming home to a family. I can’t wait to come. I’ve been attending since the moment I left rehab. It’s spiritually recharging.”
“There was a turning point here in the group that I can’t fully explain, but ever since, I’ve looked forward to the Thursday meetings.”
“I see this group as a family. From the very first moment, I found understanding and love here. Everyone respects each other’s opinions.”
“I appreciate that we openly talk about our problems.”
“I feel free to speak honestly about my issues because I know I’ll find understanding here. I can also celebrate the successes of my fellow group members.”
“I came here hesitantly, but I slowly opened up. The group means a lot to me, and I will keep coming.”
“It’s interesting to hear other people’s life stories and see their progress. I love coming here, and I always look forward to Thursdays.”
Family Members’ Group:
“This is where I can fully express myself. We all struggle with similar issues, and everyone understands me. We support and care for each other.”
“Here, I find understanding, strength, and encouragement. I gain the strength to face everyday challenges and move forward in difficult situations.”
“For me, this group provides spiritual support. When I first came, I felt very down. Here, I realized I’m not alone in my struggles; others are facing similar or even more difficult challenges. We can speak openly, without shame about what we’re going through.”
“This is a space for honesty, nothing is shocking. We don’t need to play games, we can just be ourselves, and that’s liberating.”
“I often came here feeling anxious, but I was always pleasantly surprised and received a lot of support from others.”
“The meetings and discussions are always empowering. Someone else might share an insight that, without realizing it, answers my problem. It’s liberating to talk openly and find understanding here. The unconventional activities and creative moments shake me up and encourage me to reflect inwardly, which is freeing. I don’t have time for that in my busy everyday life.”
“I usually ‘sort myself out’ when I’m alone, but here I’ve learned that honesty leads to more honesty, and there’s always helpful insight that wouldn’t have occurred to me on my own, which helps me move forward.”
