Visit from London City Mission’s Webber Street

London City Mission has close links with the Bonus Pastor Foundation and so it was suggested that, when its Mission to rough sleepers, Webber Street in Waterloo was closed for 5 weeks for renovations, some staff might visit the Bonus Pastor rehabilitation centre in Ozd. Petra Zimmermann, a missionary, and I an auxiliary worker went to visit at the end of February 2013. We were made extremely welcome by both the staff and the clients, many of whom spoke English. We were impressed with the regime of therapies that the clients underwent to heal them from their addictions. The group of 20 men who were in residence while we visited seemed to have formed a close bond as a group and co-operated well together for the smooth running of the centre. Many of our guests at Webber Street have addiction problems and we try to refer some to rehab, so it was good to witness at first hand the therapies that are used.

Petra and I were interested to see Romania as many of the rough sleepers who attend our Mission at Webber Street are from there. Neither of us had visited before and we both found it very interesting. Ozd is a small farming community and it appeared that the way of life had not changed there for a long time. A very far cry from the busy streets of London.
