News from the Ozd Therapy Centre

The Therapy Centre staff had a one day meeting on the 22nd of April in Ozd, when they discussed some basic questions which arose from the daily work with the clients, and also learnt from Gyula Bodó-Tóth some new techniques that can be used in the workshops.

Three of the TC staff members have the opportunity to participate in a pilot project called POTENS on Psychodrama Method. The training program is called “Psychodrama on the Educational Stage” and is supported by the European Commission as a part of the Lifelong Learning Program: Grundtvig. The program consists of a 90 hour training session and ends in November 2009 (www.potens.com.pl).

At the end of April we had 10 clients at the Therapy Centre. Most of the times we write “good stories” about our clients, usually about those who successfully finished their therapy, or they went through the short programs with a good result. I think some people might find it interesting to just follow the process. The following case study is “not finished” yet.

Case study

K.A. is a 42 year old client who came to the TC in Ozd four months ago. He is divorced, with one adult daughter and a younger one, both living abroad. Fighting with his alcohol and drug dependency, depression, phobia, and a very traumatized childhood, he has difficulties in maintaining his motivation to finish the therapy, to see a reason why he should persevere. At the Aftercare Conference he was very touched by the service in the church. After the service ended he was standing outside the church crying. To the question, “What happened?” he replied that now he started to understand why many things had happened in his life. Lots of problems which he did not understand so far, now have a different meaning. He was touched by the love he felt among the people at the meeting, even though he did not know everybody.

He still has a lot to work on. But I hope this experience of being in a Christian love-based community will help him to go on, and he will have the desire to belong to that community. Those who are going back to the same social background, and especially not having different relationships than before, have little chance to remain sober and to have a better quality of life. Please, pray for K.A. that God would finish what He started in his life.
